Frequently Asked Questions

What are the USTA Jr. Team Tennis Sectional Championships?

The Sectional Championships are held at the end of each local league season.  They are when all the regions come together in one location to compete against each other in their age and skill level.   USTA Florida crowns a Section champion in three age divisions (12 & under, 14 & under, and 18 & under) in the Beginner,  Intermediate,  and Advanced play divisions.

The Sectional Championships serves as the pinnacle  of USTA Jr. Team Tennis.  The section’s top teams compete for the title. This event showcases the very best elements of tennis: spirited competition, friendship, achievement, sportsmanship and fun. Playing in a Section Championship can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Play is on full size courts using standard net height, racquets and balls.

How do I form a team?

There are several options in forming a team for the Championship.

Ø  An official team consists of a MINIMUM of six (6) different players.  You should have a minimum of 3 boys and 3 girls per team.

Ø  FALL/SPRING Championships allow a team to be formed by a mixture of players in the local league.  If all of your team from the local league does not want to commit to traveling to the Championship, you may find the extra players from the appropriate age and divisions, to move to your team.  These players must have played in any local league in the section.

Ø  SUMMER CHAMPIONSHIP—to be eligible for National Championship:  Only the 14 & under and 18 & under Intermediate/Advanced levels are eligible to advance.  The team MUST have played together in the local league during the summer season  with a minimum of 3 boys and 3 girls.  All players must have played in the appropriate age and skill level at the local program level.  For all other levels; the FALL/SPRING Championship guidelines apply.

Is it possible for my individual player to participate if his/her team is not?

Ø  YES!  If your player’s team has opted out of participating in the Sectional Championship, you should contact your Jr. Team Tennis Local League Coordinator immediately.  They will get the word out across their region and the section to find you a team.

What are the requirements to participate in a Sectional Championship?

Ø  ALL teams are invited to play.

Ø  ALL USTA Jr. Team Tennis participants must have participated in the championship season (Spring, Summer, or Fall) .

Ø  Must have a current USTA Junior membership.

Ø  Must have played in at least 3 DIFFERENT local league matches on different dates with separate match identification numbers.
